Suzuki stays skeptical about EVs

Even after showing us its first fully electric car, Suzuki leadership questions the future of EVs.

Company CEO Toshihiro Suzuki believes that the automotive industry chose a poor time to go electric. With state subsidies evaporating, demand falling and competition from China growing stiffer, betting your business on EVs can be a fatal decision. Furthermore, with sales in India accounting for 48% of Suzuki’s total sales, the company should have no trouble continuing to make traditional ICE cars.

Speaking in a recent interview, Toshihiro Suzuki said the company was no longer sure it wanted to follow up on its electrification strategy from before. That one envisioned designing and launching at least five all-new EVs by 2030, an electric Jimny among them. With the market where it currently is, we may not see that SUV any time soon.
