Karma Invictus debuts with specs, only 30 will be made

Karma Automotive has unveiled the Invictus, a carbon-bodied sports sedan with Revero roots. It features suspension and handling improvements and uses a hybrid powertrain. Production plans exist for only 30 examples.

Compared to the stock Revero, the Invictus features a body largely made from carbon-fiber panels. Many of these have been additionally optimized for aerodynamic efficiency – note the air vents in the front fenders. Other than that, the Invictus looks much like the original car, which weighs 2.3 metric tons (5,070 pounds). Karma says the new sedan weighs less, but doesn’t reveal how much less.

The interior has been completely overhauled with Art Deco embroidery and aluminum trims all around. The ride should be smoother thanks to new Öhlins coilovers, Swift springs and widened wheels. Karma also promises better handling and cornering stability.

Things stay the same under the hood. A 1.5-liter engine assisted by dual e-motors hits the wheels with a combined 543 PS (536 hp / 400 kW) and 745 Nm (550 lb-ft) of torque. While the Revero sprints 0-96.6 km/h (0-60 mph) in 4.5 seconds, the Invictus manages the same in 3.97 seconds.

The range is another concern that Karma hasn’t addressed in the spec sheet. The Revero had roughly 130 km (80 miles) of all-electric range and up to 580 km (360 miles) in hybrid mode. The Invictus should be better off thanks to its largely-carbon design, but you’d probably need to ask the carmaker directly about it.
