Tesla Cybercab to have 90%+ charging efficiency, Musk says

Tesla CEO Elon Musk claims that the company’s upcoming driverless taxi, the Cybercab, will lose waste than 10% of electricity during charging despite relying on a lossy induction technique.

Wireless chargers are widely known to be less efficient and more wasteful compared to the wired ones. However, according to Musk, a German startup firm that Tesla bought out not long ago has devised a special technology to eliminate these shortcomings. The company is hopeful about this new tech, because it doesn’t want the Cybercab to have a charging port in the first place.

The mass production remains penciled in for “before 2027”, but you will be forgiven for doubting Tesla’s ability to honor deadlines. It’s not something the EV maker is particularly known for.
