Ford confirms that an affordable EV is in the works

The Blue Oval company plans to mass-produce a relatively cheap electric car for urban dwellers, with the starting price point at $30,000.

The corporation has already built a team out of former Tesla, Rivian and Canoo employees to achieve this goal, says Ford CEO Jim Farly. He admits that simply developing the car won’t be enough, though. The company will have to reignite the Americans’ interest towards smaller cars somehow, in order for it to truly succeed.

Farly believes that larger EVs with heavy, expensive battery packs might as well never become a mass-market product, hence, car companies may be better off focusing on what they can achieve with today’s technology.
