Alpine unveils a V6 hydrogen supercar concept

Renault Group’s Alpine brand has come to the Paris Motor Show this year with a rather intriguing supercar prototype named the Alpenglow Hy6. It features a 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 running on hydrogen gas.

The car is an evolutionary step forward from the Alpenglow Hy4 (see video). That one debuted in spring and had a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine under the hood. The new powertrain took a few years to create and combusts hydrogen for 730 PS (720 hp / 537 kW). The torque reaches 770 Nm (568 lb-ft) and is routed entirely to the rear wheels. Two hydrogen tanks are installed in dedicated side compartments, with the third one mounted behind the cockpit.

The Alpenglow Hy6 takes advantage of an all-carbon chassis called the LMP3 and can exceed 330 km/h (205 mph). Its exhaust system is made from Inconel, but casually exits through the taillights because it expels nothing aside from water steam.
All other details are unknown. Alpine says it wants to mass-produce a car like this, but admits that it might be better off with an all-electric powertrain.
